The EOTech Vudu X 2-12x40 with the DP1 reticle is a second-focal-plane rifle scope on a 30mm tube, with a 40 mm objective and red illumination bright enough to see in full daylight.
Six times zoom from 2x to 12x covers a hedgerow at first light and a target at the far end of the range, without asking you to own two rifles or two scopes.
The reticle sits in the second focal plane, so it stays the same visual size however far the magnification is wound — the picture stays clean at 12x and the illuminated centre stays easy to find at 2x. Eye relief is 3.73 to 3.77 in (94.4 to 94.7 mm), the scope is 12.6 in (320 mm) long and weighs 21.1 oz (597 g), and illumination runs from a single CR2032 cell. EOTech gives the field of view at 100 yards as 55.7 ft at 2x and 9.1 ft at 12x, and the country of origin as the Philippines.
The 40 mm objective is the part that earns its keep at dusk, gathering light when a 24 mm front end has given up. Because this is a second-focal-plane scope, any holdover marks in the reticle are calibrated at one magnification rather than all of them, which is the trade for a reticle that never becomes a thin thread at low power or a thick bar at high power.
The 30mm main tube takes standard 30mm rings or a 30mm one-piece mount, on a rifle with a Picatinny rail or a set of bases. For the same scope with a ballistic-drop reticle instead, see the Vudu X 2-12x40 with the BD1 reticle, and for a low power variable in the same family the Vudu X 1-6x24 DP1. Rings and mounts are in optic mounts.
