About this range

Primary Arms, explained.

The reticle is the reason to buy Primary Arms, and ACSS is the system behind it. Rather than a bare dot, an ACSS reticle etches a central aiming point together with drop compensation below it, ranging brackets sized to a torso and wind holds either side, all calibrated to a particular cartridge and a particular unit of measure — so ranging, holdover and lead come off the reticle in one look instead of from a dial. The names tell you which job each pattern does: Raptor 5.56/.308 is the yard-calibrated drop reticle for a general-purpose rifle, Aurora is the MIL version for shooting in milliradians, Cyclops and Cyclops Gen II reduce the whole thing to a single ringed aiming point for speed, Gemini is calibrated for 9mm, and ACSS-CQB is the close-quarters pattern used on the MD-21 red dots. A plain T-Dot is offered on the RDB model if you would rather have an uncluttered reticle.

After the reticle, two choices remain. Magnification is fixed on a prism, so 1X is the red dot replacement — same both-eyes-open handling, but with an etched reticle that stays visible with the illumination off and looks crisp to eyes that see a projected dot as a smear — while 3X and 5X trade that speed for identification and useful holds at distance. Then the tier: SLx is the value line and GLx the higher-specified one, with better glass and adjustments. The 1X MicroPrismT models use the H1/T1 footprint, so they bolt onto mounts already made for micro red dots and swap in without new hardware. Which one do you need? Set the height with the optic mount height guide.
