About this range

Holographic Sights, explained.

Holographic is a different technology to a reflex red dot, not a marketing name for one. A reflex sight bounces the light of a small LED off a curved, coated lens back towards your eye, so the reticle is an image on the glass. A holographic sight uses a laser diode to reconstruct a reticle recorded holographically inside the window, so the mark appears out in the scene rather than on the lens. Three practical differences follow. The window is a flat rectangle rather than a rounded tube, which gives a wide, square field of view and makes the sight easy to shoot with both eyes open. Head position inside that window matters very little, so an off-centre eye still lands the reticle on the same point. And because the reticle is projected rather than reflected, a window that is chipped, cracked or partly blocked still shows a complete reticle.

The other real difference shows up behind a magnifier. The 1 MOA centre dot used across this range is fine enough to stay precise when enlarged, where a coarser LED dot begins to cover what you are aiming at — which is why EOTech sells the HHS bundles as a system. The cost is current draw: a laser-driven reticle is thirstier than an LED, so these are switched on for use and time out on their own rather than being left running for months like a solar-backed red dot. Choose within the range by reading the model code: the XPS body sits low with rear buttons, the EXPS raises the window and adds a quick-detach lever and side buttons, a 2 covers standard brightness while a 3 adds night vision settings, and the dash number sets the reticle — a 68 MOA ring around one dot, a plain 1 MOA dot, or a ring with two or four dots for calibrated holds. GRN marks a green reticle, and TAN, GREY and OD GREEN mark finishes.
