The EOTech Vudu 4-12x36 in this listing is VDU4-12FFMD5, the first focal plane version carrying the illuminated MD5 reticle in MRAD, built around a 36 mm objective.
Seven point one inches. That is the whole scope, which is remarkable for a 4-12x, and it is the reason this optic ends up on short-receiver rifles where a conventional variable simply runs out of rail.
EOTech make it in Japan and give the weight as 16.9 oz (479 g). The reticle sits in the first focal plane, so it grows and shrinks with the magnification and its MRAD subtensions stay true at 4x, at 12x and everywhere between — you can hold at any power rather than winding to maximum first. Field of view at 100 yards is 28.5 ft (8.6 m) at 4x and 9.5 ft (2.9 m) at 12x, and eye relief runs 2.5-3.1in at 4x and 2.4-3.0in at 12x. Reticle illumination is powered by a CR2032.
The MD5 is the alternative to the MR5 in this body, and choosing between them is a matter of which grid you read faster under pressure rather than which is better. A first focal plane scope of this size suits target and gallery rifle work in MRAD, longer-range stalking and precision straight-pull shooting. The honest caveat with any compact FFP design is at the bottom of the range: at 4x the reticle is small, so fine holds want magnification behind them.
It needs rings or a mount sized to its main tube, and the short body leaves plenty of rail behind it on an AR-pattern or straight-pull receiver. The same scope with the other MRAD grid is the Vudu 4-12x36 MR5, and it is also sold bundled with an offset dot as the MD5 with EFLX package. Browse all rifle scopes.
