Enclosed Red Dot Sights

An enclosed sight puts the emitter inside the housing behind a sealed front window, instead of firing across an open gap at an exposed lens. That single change is why people buy them. Rain, snow, mud, dust and carry lint all collect in the open channel of a conventional reflex sight and will dim or block the dot at exactly the wrong moment; a sealed tube keeps the beam path clean and only asks you to wipe the outside of the glass. In consistently wet British conditions, and on a carry pistol that lives against clothing, that is a real reliability gain rather than a specification point.

The cost is size and weight. Enclosed bodies sit taller and heavier than an equivalent open sight, so on a pistol you may need higher suppressor-height iron sights to co-witness, and holster clearance needs checking. Choose accordingly: EPS Carry and SCS bodies are the slim ones for compact and carry pistols, EPS and 509T suit full-size slides, and AEMS, ARO EVO and the ROMEO4T and ROMEO8T families are built for rifle use with a Picatinny base. Sealed models are offered with red, green and gold reticles.
