RMR Footprint Red Dot Sights

RMR is the most widely supported bolt pattern in pistol optics, and that is the practical reason to choose it. Full-size and duty slides are commonly milled for it, most optic-ready plate sets include an RMR plate, and the aftermarket for mounts, offset mounts and rifle bases is far deeper than for any other pattern. The pattern is defined by its screw spacing and recoil-lug positions, and it is larger than the RMSc pattern used on slim slides — the two are not interchangeable, and a slide cut for one will not accept the other without the correct adaptor plate.

The extra footprint buys a bigger window and a bigger battery than a micro optic, which is why these are the default on full-size pistols, and why the same pattern is used for rifle work on Picatinny bases and offset mounts. Choose within it on enclosure — 509T and EPS are sealed, the 407 and 507 bodies are open reflex — then dot size, reticle colour, and whether you want a plain dot or a circle-dot multi-reticle system.
