The EOTech Vudu X 2-12x40 in black is a second focal plane rifle scope with a 40 mm objective on a 30 mm tube, carrying the illuminated BD1 ballistic duplex reticle.
Six times zoom from one scope covers the close shot and the long one, and a 40 mm objective is still pulling in usable light when the light itself has nearly gone.
The reticle is BD1, a ballistic duplex with red daylight-bright illumination, so the aiming point stays visible against a shaded hedge line or a bright field rather than washing out. Eye relief is a consistent 3.73 to 3.77 in (94.4 to 94.7 mm) across the range, power comes from a CR2032, and the anodised black scope measures 12.6 in (320 mm) and weighs 21.1 oz (597 g).
It suits the shooter who wants reach and light-gathering on one rifle rather than a case of optics, and who does most of their work at dawn and dusk. The second focal plane is the trade-off to understand: the reticle stays the same visual size while the target grows, which keeps the aiming point clean at low power but means the ballistic references only measure true at the magnification they were calibrated for.
The 30 mm main tube takes standard 30 mm rings or a 30 mm mount, bought separately, and there is enough eye relief for a rifle with real recoil. If you would rather have a plain illuminated dot reticle than a ballistic one, the Vudu X 2-12x40 SFP DP1 is the same scope with the DP1 reticle, and for a low power variable the Vudu X 1-6x24 BD1 drops to 1x.
