The SIG Sauer ROMEO5 Gen II is a 1x micro red dot sight with a 20 mm objective and a 2 MOA dot, mounted on SIG's interchangeable I-BEAM mount.
This is the sight a great many AR-pattern and straight-pull builds start with, and the second generation keeps the reasons why: MOTAC motion activation, a parallax-free window with unlimited eye relief, and a housing that survives being used.
The aluminium body is rated IPX-7, shockproof and fogproof, measuring 69.7 mm long by 61.5 mm high and 39.6 mm wide. One CR2032 runs it for 40,000 hours, split across 12 illumination settings with 10 for daylight and 2 for night vision, and MOTAC wakes the dot on movement and shuts it down when the rifle is left alone. Elevation travel runs to 100 MOA, and the sight weighs 5.5 oz.
It suits service rifle, practical shooting, rimfire and shotgun work — anywhere a simple, light, weatherproof dot is what the rifle actually needs. The trade against a more expensive optic is the open emitter, which can be blocked by heavy rain or mud in a way an enclosed sight cannot, and the small window makes a magnifier pairing tighter than it would be on a large-window sight.
It mounts to Picatinny through SIG's interchangeable I-BEAM mount, so a flat-top AR-pattern upper, a straight-pull receiver or a rail-equipped shotgun all work. The same sight with a green emitter is the ROMEO5 Gen II green, a circle-dot reticle is on the ROMEO5XDR Gen II, and the magnifier package is the ROMEO5 Gen II with JULIET3-Micro.
